Saturday the 26th at 3:00 will be the monthly Pu’er Enthusiast Meetup. Pu’er tea is considered the king of tea. This is because it gets better with age and because it is the source from which all other teas are born. Pu’er is a universe unto itself and during the monthly Meetups we seek to explore a bit of it. Sometimes we deviate to enjoy other teas but they are always from Yunnan Province.
This month we’ll be enjoying the different finishes of ripe pu’er by tasting one of my more popular offerings Golden Peacock organic by Honest Goodness company, produced by Lang-he one of the ten largest pu’er companies. It has a dry finish with baker’s chocolate-like notes. On the sweeter side, much sweeter in fact, is a brick from my slowly developing Cultural Revolution collection, which I’ve nicknamed Mao. It is from a maker of no consequence but frankly it might be one of the best I’ve had. We’ll warm up by first getting thoroughly tea drunk on some of my more pedestrian raw offerings. A few vegetarian bao-zi and fried peanuts will join the mix to settle the appetite often stimulated with strong tea. Next month raws will be the focus. We’ll do battle with the soft elegance of Yi-wu Mt’s Falling Water Cave and the brashness of Bulang Mt with a selection from the reputable Fu-xing Tea Co.
Hope to see you soon.
